Create your Small Office-Home Office e-Green
The good news is that e-green office is not only good
for the planet, it's cheap. And, when combined with a
few other green tactics, it's healthier. Try some or all
the following:
1. Purchase computers and other electronic refreshable
equipment. If necessary, upgrade rather than replace it.
Save money and reduce consumerism.
2. Turn off electronic equipment when not in use to reduce
25% energy. If you put everything on a power bar, it is
Should just turn off a switch. Turn off the computer
during the night and save an additional 50%.
3. Set your computer monitor to go into "sleep mode" or
Standby mode when not used for ten minutes. This reduces the power
peripherals but retains the memory so as not to
lose your work. In Windows XP, use the Start menu -
Control Panel - Display a Screen Saver - Power, then
choose settings. On a portable computer, using the Hibernate
function to prolong battery life.
4. Recycle old computers and equipment. Many more
computer and electronics companies have begun offering
recycling programs. If this does not work for your situation,
find an organization that accepts electronics recycling, or
Contact your local government to ask where and how
electronics are recycled in your area. This includes
Energy efficient light bulbs, which contain zinc and
should not be placed in the landfill.
5. Speaking of energy efficient light bulbs, start or
continue to use them. You'll save on energy costs.
Place the desk and equipment to capture the natural light
from a window.
6. Use a fax modem as far as possible, rather than
fax. You can send documents directly from your computer
rather than print and paper usage. Bypass
Cover and help the recipient save paper.
7. Print and copy double-sided documents to save
paper. Use scraps of paper or envelopes used for
memo pad. Print only what you need to print.
Keep the rest in computer files.
8. Communicating via e-mail more and less through letters
and paper memos.
9. Schedule conference calls more, videoconferencing
and net meetings instead of face to face meetings. You will save
resources, time and money, reducing business travel.
10. Look for the ENERGY STAR ® before buying computer
monitors, printers, copiers, fax machines and scanners
multifunction devices. This logo confirms that the machine
meets the standards of energy efficiency. Make sure that the energy
efficient features are activated. Some ship-
components manufacturer with high efficiency switched off.
Ask the representative to show how to turn if you are not
sure how to proceed.
11. Recycle paper, cardboard, toner, ink cartridges
and other materials. Use high-yield cartridges. Purchase
Earth-friendly products, including cleaning supplies, toner
and office supplies.
12. Use rechargeable batteries where possible, rather than
disposable. Try to stay away from disposable items such as
as far as possible. You may pay more for a more robust product
(For example, a case more robust), but since it last longer, it is
save time and reduce waste.
Remember, everything you do makes a difference. For the other
things you can do, do an Internet search for "the environment
office friendly "or" green office ". You will find a wide range
of the information .......
